Hospices de Beaune & C. Marey et Comte Liger-Belair

The Hospices de Beaune is Burgundy’s most historic charitable estate, holding prestigious vineyard parcels across the Côte d'Or. However, the ultimate greatness of a Hospices wine is determined by its éleveur; the master winemaker who acquires the barrel at auction and oversees its maturation.

This specific cuvée was acquired and raised by none other than Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, the visionary behind the legendary, cult-status Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair in Vosne-Romanée.

Under the resurrected, historic family négoce label "C. Marey & Comte Liger-Belair" (a partnership dating back to 1852), Louis-Michel applies his meticulous, low-intervention, high-pedigree winemaking philosophy to these barrels. The result is a profound marriage between the historic terroir of the Hospices and the absolute pinnacle of modern Burgundy craftsmanship

The Cuvée Madeleine Collignon is sourced from a prime parcel in the heart of the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, with nearly 60% of the vines dating back to 1947. The 2014 vintage is celebrated by purists for its classicism, vibrant acidity, and profound terroir transparency. Under the masterful élevage of Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, this Mazis-Chambertin is a study in power restrained by breathtaking purity. It delivers the natural, muscular depth and compact dark fruit typical of Gevrey's Grand Crus, yet it is elevated by Liger-Belair’s signature silky texture and aromatic precision. While approachable now due to its exceptional balance, it possesses the structure and pedigree to evolve gracefully for decades.
